Q Does Reflector work with my iPad, iPhone or iPod touch?
AReflector requires AirPlay mirroring in iOS to mirror your screen. AirPlay mirroring is available on the following devices:
iPad 2
iPad (3rd generation)
iPad (4th generation)
iPad mini
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5
iPod touch (5th generation)
Q How do I use Reflector to mirror?
A Download Reflector and copy it to your Applications folder. After launching the app, double-tap the home button on your iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3 and swipe right on the multitask tray until you see the AirPlay icon next to the volume slider. Tap this and select your Mac from the list. Last, toggle the "Mirror" switch…voila!
Q Can I AirPlay the audio from my iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 or iPad 3?
A Absolutely! Reflector sends the screen and audio from your device to your Mac. You can also use your Mac as an AirPlay audio receiver (without any video)!
Q Where is my license?
A Your registration key is sent separately from your PayPal receipt. It can take up to 20 minutes for your key to be generated. If you still do not receive a license key email, check your Spam and email us with your PayPal transaction ID.
Q I need to re-download Reflector.
A You can download Reflector again using the download button on the main page.
Q I need to uninstall Reflector.
A To remove Reflector, just drag the Reflector.app file to the trash bin on your Mac.
Usage
Q What do the Reflector preferences do?
A
Optimize For - This setting should be left untouched unless instructed to do otherwise by our support team. This setting allows Reflector to force a certain resolution to enhance performance. The "Any Device" setting automatically uses the best resolution for your device.
AirPlay Name - This setting changes the broadcast name of your computer. This is the name that will show in your iDevice's list of available AirPlay receivers.
On Connection - Checking the "Launch Fullscreen" option will launch any new inbound connections in fullscreen mode.
Fullscreen Background - Chose any solid color to use when mirroring in fullscreen mode. Alternatively, choose to use your desktop background when in full screen mode.
Current FPS - This indicates the quality of network connection. The number shown is your current frames per second. A connection must be established to see this.
Q Can I mirror to multiple devices?
A Absolutely! Reflector can handle multiple connections. The exact number will depend on the specs of your computer. More connections can slow a computer considerably because of the CPU power required for mirroring.
Q Can I show on screen taps and gestures?
A Reflector is a "view-only" app. So while we can get the stream the iPhone or iPad sends us, we can't ask the iPhone to do things for us. The only way to accomplish this would be with jail-breaking and running a custom app to send the data we want.
Q Can I record my voice and other audio with Reflector?
A Reflector only records audio sent from the device that's streaming. Any additional audio like voice over or music will need to be added with software like iMovie.
Troubleshooting
Q Why do some apps look different than what is on my device's screen?
A Some apps have implemented different functionality when the device is mirroring or connected to a video out cable. Some GPS and video streaming apps, for example, provide different (or crippled) functionality for video out and mirroring. This is a feature of Airplay mirroring on iOS and not something we can change.
Q I can't figure out how to record in 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
A Recording is only available on 10.7 Lion and greater.
Q Can I remove the title bar from my mirrored screen?
A Unfortunately, no. This is a limitation of OS X 10.6.
Q I can't see my Mac running Reflector from my iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 or iPad 3 in the AirPlay menu.
A Your Mac and iOS device must be on the same network to communicate. This means your iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPhone 4S must be connected to Wi-Fi as Reflector can't communicate over 3G. Make sure your devices are using the same Wi-Fi access point as well. Lastly, ensure there is not a software firewall running in OS X or a hardware firewall on your network. If you're on a corporate or school network, you may need to have your IT department allow TCP ports 7000, 47000, 7100, 49228, 50259 and UDP 62572, 54780 to be open to communicate.
Q I'm having issues and my iPad 2, iPad 3, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 is jailbroken.
A Jail-breaking adds a level of complexity to supporting software. Various processes, hacks and mods can drastically effect the performance and behavior of Reflector. While we'll do our best to get you running, ultimately we can't support advanced issues we think might be related to the device being jailbroken.
Q When I launch Reflector, I get an error stating AirPlay ports are in use.
A This usually happens when another AirPlay application is open. To locate that application, you'll need to run the following command from terminal and then close the application.
A
If the AirPlay mirror icon isn't displaying, your iPhone 4S isn't able to see the Mac for one reason or another. You may need to have your IT department allow TCP ports 7000, 47000, 7100, 49228, 50259 and UDP 62572, 54780 to be open to communicate. Also, the network must be allowed to run bonjour.
If you're on a home network, the firewall on your Mac may be preventing the devices from communicating. It's also possible that the firewall on your router is preventing communication.
